In a forward thinking move, the 4 partners of Ulster & Connaught Heritage Railways will over the coming weeks be hosting Open Day events at each railway. These Open Days will be targetting local tourism providers in each locality and inviting them to come and sample the heritage railway experience. If you are a tourism product provider located nearby to any of the 4 railways and would like to be invited simply drop us an e-mail to heritagerailways@gmail.com
A new website promoting four heritage railways in the northern part of the Island of Ireland has recently gone “live” on the internet. The website, www.ucrailways.com will be a key marketing tool for the members of Ulster & Connaught Heritage Railways.
The funding for this website was made available through the Cross Border Heritage Railway Cluster Project. This cross border partnership involves the following heritage railways; Cavan & Leitrim Railway (Co. Leitrim); Downpatrick & Co. Down Railway (Co. Down); Fintown Railway (Co. Donegal); Giant’s Causeway & Bushmills Railway (Co. Antrim). The project valued at €507,076, is concerned with the capital development, marketing and promotion of these four heritage railways and is part-financed by the European Union through the Interreg IIIA Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the ICBAN Partnership. Match funding is being provided by Udaras na Gaeltachta.
Ulster & Connaught Heritage Railways is the marketing brand developed to promote this collection of four heritage railways. A key aim is to encourage people to visit all four railways and this website will be a key factor in achieving this. The website further complements strategic advertising in both general tourist and specialist railway themed publications and also the dedicated brochure which has been distributed throughout the Island of Ireland.
Developed in partnership with TickTock Design, the website features sections such as latest news, events and how to travel around the four railways. In addition there are specific sections unique to each railway including an image gallery. The website is therefore full of useful content, complemented with great photos and just as importantly, is very easy to use.
Project Manager, Martin McAndrew commented “This website will allow the project partners to promote their railways on the internet under the Ulster & Connaught Heritage Railways brand. Furthermore they will also have access to update their individual railways information which means that the site will have relevant and dynamic content.
